Rise Again: A Roadmap for Women Entrepreneurs Launching a Business

Keep reading to learn how my whispers became loud and clear about how I determined I needed to pivot from my 9-5 and how I began to restructure my life.

This is the beginning of your roadmap for divine intervention to

  1. Get clear on the vision for your second career.

  2. Chart your course for success.

  3. Test the waters before taking a leap of faith.

  4. Execute the vision right the first time without needing to restructure your life again.

Let's dive in!

A Woman Entrepreur

I failed Corporate. There, I said it.

That was my breakthrough moment when I realized I was not on my divine assignment.

If you know me and you’re reading this, the word “fail” probably surprised you.

It took me by surprise, too. Because honestly and truly, failure isn’t next to The Legacy CPA® in the dictionary.

However, I realized that corporate was not fun for me.

I emphasize “for me” because this isn't a "strike" against Corporate. But if you can relate, then continue.

I spent over a decade doing something I knew within the 1st year was a “stretching” moment.

But, I wasn’t known to back down from a challenge. So, I stayed.

The most significant two pieces of advice that developed some core beliefs early in my career were

  1. Working on your weaknesses is a good thing.

  2. Take the job nobody wants, and you’ll get promoted.

So, that was my focus for TEN YEARS.

Yet, I believe this type of advice does three things.

  1. It pours gasoline on the rising flames of imposter syndrome.

  2. It keeps you performing at D- talent, at best.

  3. You simply burn out by failing to meet expectations.

Can we challenge the status quo about this common advice so many women receive in big companies?

Were the two core beliefs the lies that “management” passed down to marginalized groups to keep us behind?

Cause it can't be a prophetic word.

I observed how others were placed on assignments they loved while I followed the advice of taking the jobs nobody wanted, working on my weaknesses…

To challenge the advice of management, let's consider asking two BIG questions silently.

  1. Why should we work on our weaknesses if we are fearfully and wonderfully made?

  2. Why should we take the job nobody wants if we are hired for our unique gifts and talents?

These questions became the whispers I needed to devise an exit strategy that honored the divine intervention and revelation I had received.

Those whispers as I stayed longer and longer felt like the drums Harriet Tubman may have heard as she freed souls trapped in the confines of artificial stipulations.

Can you relate?

If you can relate, here’s part 1 of a checklist to help you rise after Corporate. Consider these steps before taking a leap of faith and charting a new course to honor your passion, promise, and portion to deliver your gifts and talents to a world that needs you!

Identify Your Unique Talents and Strengths

Many believe that adding to the saturated marketplace wouldn't make sense since there’s already something like us in the industry.

But the reality is, there’s something about you that makes you stand out. Something about you makes you more unique than Shirly and Susan before you.

Can you identify those things, what drives you for its purpose, and why it matters in an already saturated marketplace?

Here are some questions to consider helping you storyboard your talents and strengths

  • What were some jobs you held over the past three decades? Or if you haven’t been on earth that long, break your successes over 5-year increments?

  • What were some key lessons learned as you went through those jobs?

  • What core beliefs were developed as you conquered or failed during that time?

  • What did others believe about you? What was the reputation developed?

The reality is that our gifts and talents are the common themes we recognize in these four questions.

The sooner you realize the common themes and core beliefs that arise as you work through life, the better equipped you will be to take charge of your next move in life.

Did you love making pies with your older siblings, mom, and grandmother as a child? Did this love of baking continue as you age, and was a sense of escapism from work? Did you love the smiles people saw on their faces as you delivered homemade pies to their life events?

These things matter.

Clarify Your Why

Understand Your Profit Model

As you read this, I hope you received a breakthrough about your divine assignment.

If you found this beneficial in charting your course and have a business friend who has struggled to “see the light” in a dark tunnel, share this with her.

And if you received this message from that business friend and read it this far, Hey, girl!

Part 2, Risk Assessing Your Divine Assignment, comes next week.
